Previewing the Lou Perry Tour Championship

LEXINGTON, KY (October 16, 2020) – The 2020 season on the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour has certainly been different. Much like other sports organizations affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, this tournament campaign has been drastically different than normal. But after a 27-tournament season that started much later than originally planned on June 29th, it all boils down to the Lou Perry Tour Championship.

The tournament’s name received a deserving alteration in August when the Tour Championship became the Lou Perry Tour Championship thanks to the generous donation Perry left for the Kentucky Golf Foundation before his passing. Mary Shields Perry, Lou’s wife, will be at University Club of Kentucky for part of Saturday’s first round to greet players and welcome them to this flagship event on the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour. Her excitement to see the event and take in 142 players enjoying the game, just as her husband hoped for, will be a special moment.

As for those 142 players, the Big Blue course at University Club of Kentucky awaits them. It will be a two-day stroke play competition with players completing eighteen, nine or six-hole rounds based on their division. With this being the final individual competition of the season, the tournament’s titles along with the season-long points races are on the line. The latter of which will be made official in the days following the tournament.

Going along with those races, five divisions have AJGA stars up for grabs while Junior Golf Scoreboard and Global Junior Golf Rankings will each be keeping tabs on how the leaderboard shakes out. Additionally, a large incentive is at stake for the Boys Championship Division’s players. If a chaser in the points standings is able to leapfrog his way to the top of the standings at the tournament’s conclusion, he will gain an exemption into the 2021 Barbasol Junior Championship and thus have the opportunity to compete for a spot in the PGA Tour’s Barbasol Championship next summer.

The top of the standings for each division going into the Lou Perry Tour Championship are as follows (* denotes player is not in this weekend’s field):

The Kentucky PGA Junior Tour will have full coverage of the tournament on its FacebookInstagram and Twitter pages throughout the weekend. Tee times can be found by clicking here. Leaderboards will be available for each division once the tournament begins here.
