PROSPECT, KY (July 6, 2021) – The first round of the Kentucky Boys Junior Amateur featured some of the best golf you could find in Kentucky’s youth. Nevel Meade Golf Club was the stage for multiple great rounds during the early going of the tournament’s first round on Tuesday, with Luke Muller setting the standard at 66 (-6).

Beginning his round on the 10^th, Muller went out in 31 (-5) and added two more birdies on holes 2 and 3 to get as low as -7 at one point in his round. That 66 was the best 18-hole score posted on Tuesday and it seemed a couple of players were on track to either match or top that score early in the afternoon, but then weather became the story of the day.

An unexpected storm popped up in the area and made its way towards Prospect, forcing a suspension of play at 4:15 p.m. EDT. Unfortunately, once the storm made its way towards Nevel Meade, it stopped in its tracks and hovered in the area for three hours before play was officially called for the day at 7:15.

The effects from that storm will change the plans for how the tournament will conclude tomorrow. The players who did not finish their first round on Tuesday will resume their first round at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning. Shortly after each of those groups finish, they will begin their second round in the same groups they played with on Tuesday. Those who played on Tuesday morning will now play their final rounds on Wednesday afternoon, also in the same groups they were in on Tuesday. Thus, there will be no re-pairing based off score for the tournament’s final round.

The players closest to sniffing the lead with first rounds to finish on Wednesday are Clay Pendergrass and Sean Mullarkey. Pendergrass played twelve holes on Tuesday and is -5 while Mullarkey completed nine holes and is -4. Pendergrass’ placement currently has him at T2 on the leaderboard alongside Jackson Hill, who cared 67 in the morning wave. Warren Thomis joins Mullarkey at -4, but Thomis also completed his round early on Tuesday after getting around Nevel Meade in 68 strokes. In all, there were ten under-par rounds completed on Tuesday, while six players are under-par with their first rounds to finish on Wednesday morning.

All first rounds of the Boys 14 & Under Division are in progress and will be completed on Wednesday morning. Xander Tucker leads the way at -2, having completed 10 holes. Liam O’Grady and Ryan Stokes are each even-par and tied for second place.
