Kentucky PGA Junior Tour & Louisville Metro Parks to Co-Sanction Junior Falls Cities

Kentucky PGA Junior Tour and Louisville Metro Parks & Recreation to co-sanction Junior Falls Cities beginning with 2022 event.

LOUISVILLE, KY (January 27, 2022) – The Junior Falls Cities, one of the most historic golf tournaments in Kentucky, is becoming a joint event of the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour and Louisville Metro Parks & Recreation.

After being contested for more than 75 years, the event will become an official part of the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour’s schedule for the first time beginning this year. The Junior Falls Cities will replace the Summer Preview on the Tour’s calendar but remain at Seneca Golf Course on May 14-15 as originally stated in the Tour’s schedule release earlier in January. Players who have already registered for the event will not need to re-register.

The Junior Falls Cities boasts an impressive list of past winners, including major champions Justin Thomas and Bobby Nichols. This year’s participants will have the opportunity to join those names on that list, while also competing for points in the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour Player of the Year standings and AJGA stars.

There will also be additional perks up for grabs for players from Jefferson County competing. The top overall boy from the county will gain an exemption into this year’s Men’s Metro Championship while the overall girl with the lowest total score will claim a spot in the Ladies Jefferson County Tournament.

“This partnership will ensure the success of our longtime coveted event at our Louisville Metro Parks courses,” explained Tommy Betz, PGA Head Golf Professional at Long Run Golf Course and one of the tournament’s key planners. “The Kentucky PGA Junior Tour will help create an elite field, ultimately crowning Louisville junior golf champions year after year.”

“It’s exciting to be the host of the Junior Falls Cities any year, but it will be especially so this year with this news,” exclaimed Kevin Greenwell, PGA Head Golf Professional at Seneca Golf Course. “We can’t wait to host this prestigious event and some of the best young golfers in the state this May.”

This announcement comes on the heels of the news that the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour will also be co-sanctioning the Lexington Junior City Championship, which Kearney Hill Golf Links will host on April 30 – May 1. With the Junior Falls Cities also joining the Tour’s schedule, it means both Lexington and Louisville’s top junior competitions will be contested on the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour within a three-week timeframe.

Unlike past editions of the Junior Falls Cities, this year’s edition will be contested via stroke play for all divisions. Registration for the tournament is open and can be completed by clicking here.
