Three Share Lead in KY Girls Junior Am

GEORGETOWN, KY (July 16, 2020) - After day one here at Cherry Blossom Golf & Country Club, we are on pace for what should be a stellar final round as three players share the lead in the Girls Championship Division. To begin her day, Macie Brown experienced trouble on the par-three 2nd which led to her first bogey of the day, but she quickly bounced back with a birdie on the par-four 3rd to regain the stroke that was lost. She would then make the turn at even par before suffering a double bogey on the par-three 16th. Brown’s par-three performance in the final round could be pivotal in deciding the tournament given today’s results. Tied for the lead as well, Savannah Howell quickly found her groove on the front nine making the turn with 34 (-2), but suffered back-to-back bogeys and a double bogey on the par-three 16th before finishing at 74 (+2). Rounding out our leaders after day one, the opposite scenario occurred for Delia Gibbs. After a mildly rocky start, she would go on to birdie consecutive holes to put herself in contention and ultimately move into the tie for the lead. It is safe to say the final day of competition is living up to the hype, with twelve players within three shots of the lead.

In other divisions, leaders are as follows:

  • Madison Harding leads the Girls 16-18 Division following an 84 (+12).
  • Athena Singh and Carter Lankford co-lead the Girls 13-15 Division after both players recorded 75 (+3).
  • Andie Baumann impressed in the Girls 12 & Under Division after shooting a useful round of 34 (-2).
  • Emlie Miller leads in the Girls 9 & Under Division via a 31 (+7) in this six-hole division.
  • For the gentlemen, Luc Kelty has the lead in the Boys 11-12 Division after shooting 38 (+2).
  • Andrew Perry of Winchester is in front in the Boys 10 & Under Division with a 40 (+4).
  • Paxton Fuqua is on top in the Boys 8 & Under Division thanks to his 29 (+5) in the opening round.

NOTES AND STATS

  • Two eagles were recorded in the Girls Championship Division on Thursday, both on the par-five 5th. Abby Cook (T16) and Morgan Shown (40) were those to make three during Thursday’s play.
  • That 5th hole was the easiest hole of the day and the only one to average a score under par in the first day, with a mark of -0.04. Sixteen birdies were made on it to go along with the pair of eagles.
  • The island green on the par-three 12th showed its difficulty as it played hardest to start the competition. At +1.00, many players encountered a road block here, but it did yield some success as five birdies and eighteen pars were made.

The Kentucky PGA Junior Tour will have full coverage of the tournament on its FacebookInstagram and Twitter pages. A live video will be available to watch on Facebook when the final group of the Girls Championship Division reaches its final hole during Friday’s final round. If there is a playoff needed to determine a champion, another live video will become available.
