The Kentucky PGA Junior Tour is excited to announce the Players of the Year in the 2019 Championship Series. From the beginning of the season at the Junior Tour Match Play Championship at Valhalla through the Junior Tour Championship at Big Spring Country Club Inc. – Harmony Landing Campus, it was one of the most exciting seasons in Tour history. Six players demonstrated exemplary play throughout the season and stand atop the standings as this season’s finest players. For their Player of the Year title, each golfer receives a Sun Mountain 2020 Collegiate golf bag.

Andrew Flynn of Louisville has won the Boys Overall Division, the strongest division of Kentucky’s male junior golfers. Flynn came close to victory twice early in the season when he finished second at the Battle at Boone’s Trace National as well as the Summer Preview at Seneca Golf Course. Flynn finally got a taste of victory this season when he broke through in the Junior Tour Championship in Goshen after winning a five-hole playoff to decide the victor. The win not only won him that tournament, but also gave him a late push to win the Player of the Year title.

“This has been a successful summer of golf,” Flynn said. “I gained distance off the tee and more importantly became a much better putter. I’m hopefully nearing a commitment to play college golf, which has always been a dream of mine. After college, I’d like to play on a smaller professional tour somewhere in the country and work my way up to bigger and bigger tours. That’s a very difficult thing to do, which is why I will continue to work hard throughout the rest of high school, and into college.”

On the girls’ side, Rylee Suttor of Shelbyville is the Player of the Year in the Girls Overall Division. Like Flynn, Suttor was victorious in the Junior Tour Championship and claimed the Louisville Junior Championship at Polo Fields Golf & Country Club.

“When you win any tournament, it feels good and you know you’ve accomplished something,” Suttor said. “I’m going to be a freshman at Centre College so my goals are to become an all-American and win a national championship title there.”

Winning the Boys 14 & Under Division is Warren Thomis of Richmond. A participant of six events this season, he won the Battle at Boone’s Trace National, the Precision Pro Golf Junior Championship at Lakeside Golf Course and the Junior Tour Championship. His other finishes were superb, coming in no worse than fifth-place in each of his appearances.

“It feels great to win this award,” Thomis said. “I’ve worked very hard this season to get to this point and feel very blessed. My short game worked very well for me this year. Next, I plan on playing the AJGA for national exposure. I hope that all the hard work gets me to the PGA Tour one day.”

Paducah’s Madison Glisson was one of the Junior Tour’s stars this season. She takes the Player of the Year prize in the Girls 14 & Under Division after winning the Marshall Strong Classic at Calvert City Country Club and the Kentucky Girls Junior PGA Championship at The University Club at Arlington. Her other two starts in Girls 14 & Under were each runner-up finishes, and she notched another runner-up finish at the Junior Tour Championship after being bumped up into the Girls Overall Division. Glisson also captured a Player of the Year title in the Players Series, completing her excellent season.

“I had a great summer playing golf,” Glisson said. “I moved up a division this year and played much longer yardages at a lot of new courses. I got to meet a lot of new people and make some new friends. I am most proud of finishing second in the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour Championship in the Girls 13-18 Division. I got to play with girls a lot older than me which was a lot of fun. I hope to play in bigger tournaments next year. I just want to keep working on my game and be ready to play high school golf next year.”

Luc Kelty of Louisville captures the Boys 12 & Under Division title. Two wins in the Spring Preview at Juniper Hill Golf Course and the Louisville Junior Championship at Polo Fields highlighted his season in the Championship Series. Like Glisson, Kelty is also a Player of the Year in the Players Series. Between the two programs, he recorded seven wins on the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour this season.

“It feels great to win Player of the Year because it shows the hard work and practice I put in paid off,” Kelty said. “My ball-striking was typically my strength throughout the season, but most of all I think I did a good job bouncing back after having a bad hole. Next up I plan on to just continue trying to improve; mostly my putting. I also want to try and win the Drive Chip & Putt Regional at Oakland Hills in October to get to Augusta National next year.”

The Player of the Year in the Girls 12 & Under Division is Madison Easterling of Georgetown. In her four events this season, her finishes were either first or fourth each time out, with the victories coming at the Precision Pro Golf Junior Championship and the Louisville Junior Championship.

“I was able to shoot some of my lowest scores this season,” Easterling said. “It feels great to win. It’s good to see your hard work pay off. My goals are to improve my driving distance and putting for next year. I also want to make my high school team next year as well.”

Each player has big things in store on and off the golf course going forward and their presence on the Tour has helped make the Championship Series Kentucky’s home for the most competitive tournament golf on the junior level.
